April 2025
Happy Easter!!! Praise God for another day!
Give us this Day our Daily Bread. (Matthew 6:11)
For I was Hungry and You gave Me something to Eat. (Matthew 25:35)
On January 12, 2010 a major earthquake happened near Leogane, Haiti. Little did I know my life would change as a child sponsor for a young earthquake victim named Cherane. In January of 2011, I visited her family to see how we could help. By the end of the year, we had helped build her family, a new 2 room house. In January 2012, I went back to observe the new home built with funds from a doctor friend of mine.
By June 2012, our Haiti connections had allowed us to start supporting a Saturday Kids Club Bible Study meeting in someone’s yard. We helped upgrade it to serve lunch to the children. It grew rapidly, for about 3 years, to 300 children. By 2016, we had purchased property and built a small school, accommodating 85 children the first year. Now, in the school year 2024/2025, we have 309 students daily receiving a Christian education and lunch. We are grateful to God and to all of our sponsors and those that have shared gifts from the United States, Europe, and Canada.
Haiti continues to be in crisis, but God continues our story. This June will begin our 14th year.
We are working on completions, transitions, and sustainable ideas for the near and far future for HCH. We pray our children will see better, safer days and be given more opportunities in the days ahead.
We are struggling to keep school lunches daily, because of growth, inflation, and difficulties with safe transportation. However, we are currently feeding 6,600 meals to students each month. The average cost per month for lunches is $4000. These meals are very important as Haitian families struggle to keep themselves fed – school lunch may be the only meal of the day for many children in this impoverished and dangerous country.
Thank you to our sponsors who provide for the education (staff salaries) and meals. If you’d like to be part of helping cover our additional costs and in continuing to provide lunches we would greatly appreciate it. You can help cover these new shortfalls through giving on our website www.haitischildrenshope.org or reach out to us directly.
This information was just given to us from our meal manager, “Yes, God deserves all of the praise. If it weren’t for God, HCH would not be here anymore, because of the state of the country. I thank God very much for giving you the opportunity to continue helping. In addition, I ask God to touch the hearts of others, who are participating in helping HCH. God started with us and I don’t believe He will leave us behind.” Millie
In January 2025, Haiti’s capital city lost 47 schools in one month. Hundreds of schools have been shut down permanently, due to much unrest in the country.
Thanks again for continuing to help us each month; to give Christian education, healthcare to our students, and lunches Monday to Saturday.
Happy Easter! To God be the Glory.
