Greetings from Haiti!
I had the chance to see the opening event of the Olympics games. It was an uncommon event that prompted people to think about the beauty of the world, and should help leaders dream of creating peace to rebuild the world of beauty. Thanks to the athletes of different countries, different cultures, and different religions for coming together without any discrimination, in understanding one for another, friendly in spirit, in solidarity without any conflict to celebrate, to share their joy, the ability that each athlete possesses. It was wonderful!
While watching the beauty of the event, the joy that radiated off the face of each athlete, I immediately thought of children in my country who are talented but do not find adequate environments to exploit their abilities.
The political crisis mixed with a series of disturbances the country has known for many centuries decreases the chance for children to dream, for children to explore and play, to have the ability to sleep. HCHO is doing its duty to continue to stand with children in Haiti, especially children in Morne Barbeau and surrounding areas to share hope, push them to dream of a better tomorrow where they can celebrate and develop the abilities that God’s put inside each of them.
Games and play generally integrate people’s development. With playing, all parts of the person are connected and create equilibrium for blossoming. HCHO has long dreamed of a playground where we can offer children an environment that can help them develop their potential and create stability for the child to enjoy his/her developmental stage.
To this goal, we are seeking funds to implement a playground this summer to provide a place for children to spend their energy, have fun and develop their abilities.
Our biggest needs this fall are:
- Elementary Playground – $4,000 Phase 1 – $8,000 Phase 2 – Soccer/BB
- Food Security- Food Reserves – $3,000
- High School Windows and Doors- $ 3,800
- Modern Flush Toilets – $7,000
- Modern Kitchen – $13,000 finish electric, gas cookers, refrigeration
- Completion of all needs $60,000 – Electrical, plumbing, concrete finish, paint
